There are two common reasons why the VAT Claimed amount may not match the Trial Balance VAT value.
Transactions Not Pulled Through to the VAT 126 Report
For a transaction to appear on the VAT 126 report, a Supplier must be selected when the transaction is created. This means that journals raised with a VAT code selected will not automatically pull through to the report if no supplier is attached.
Any transactions not appearing on the report will need to be added as a manual adjustment and then claimed through the VAT Return function.
Backdated Transactions Not Included in the Report Period
A discrepancy can also occur if aged transactions are not being pulled through for the periods selected on the VAT 126. For example, if the report is only generated for Period 4, any backdated transactions from Periods 0–3 will not be included.
To ensure all unclaimed transactions are captured, run the VAT 126 report from Period 0 through to the period you are reporting for.
